why some tv role models all agressive, ridiculous overdemanding people?

just a quick question here: after watching multiple blips of shows (such as a woman reforming beauty salons, simon from American idol) it seems that many figures that are seemingly role models are selected for their agressive, egotistical behavior. what is it that we expect to gain from such examples? i wonder.
